DES160 DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHY provides an introduction to photography used in the context of design studies. Students are taught familiarity with the camera, learning how shutter speed and depth-of-field affect image creation. Working in the contexts of observation, composition, and meaning, students make photographic images and compositions. Students gain an understanding of light in photographic documentation and expression by working in the photographic studio and in the field with natural light. Digital techniques and software programs are core to the course. Students utilize principles of digital file management, learn basic digital image editing and correction techniques, and demonstrate principles of formal composition using photographic images.
